It’s time to take responsibility and get involved—from your #home to your #church.
Why? Because this is our God-given realm to influence. If we remain silent, if we shrug off our duty, then decisions in #government will be made by those who are clueless about truth and values.
Whether local, state, or federal—remember this: elected officials are servants, not rulers. They answer to the people, and the people answer to God.
“When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice: but when the wicked beareth rule, the people mourn.” — Proverbs 29:2
Silence is not an option. Conviction must be our response.
Why the Silence?
Here’s where my frustration lies: too many Christians, churches, and even pastors skate around governmental issues. They shirk the responsibility of vocalizing complaints against the very government we elect.
And let’s be honest—it often comes down to comfort.
It’s easier to keep the peace than stir the waters. It’s easier to stay in the pulpit and speak only of heaven than to risk being accused of being “too political.” It’s easier to remain liked than to risk being bold.
But comfort is not what Christ called us to. The cross was not comfortable. Truth has never been convenient.
Still, this is not a word of despair. It’s a call to courage. God has given His people a voice, and when we use it, we serve as both salt and light.
“Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men.” — Matthew 5:13
When we remain silent, we become tasteless. But when we speak, we preserve.
The True Meaning of “Politic”
The word politic has been twisted in modern use, but its roots tell a different story.
Etymology
Greek root: πολιτικός (politikos) – “of citizens, civil, relating to the state”
Derived from: πόλις (polis) – “city, city-state”
Suffix: -ικός (-ikos) – forming adjectives meaning “relating to, characteristic of”
Breakdown
Polit- (from polis): the community of citizens
-ic (from -ikos): pertaining to, characteristic of
So literally: pertaining to the city-state or relating to citizens.
Politics, at its core, isn’t about parties, platforms, or power struggles. It’s about citizens engaging in the life of the community. It’s about responsibility.
“Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid.” — Matthew 5:14
If Christians retreat into silence, the culture is left in darkness.
The Call to Action
Stop burying your head in the sand.
Stop waiting for “someone else” to take the lead.
In your home, lead with biblical conviction. “As for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.” — Joshua 24:15
In your church, speak truth with love. “Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine.” — 2 Timothy 4:2
In your community, don’t be silent when values are mocked and truth is ignored. “Cry aloud, spare not, lift up thy voice like a trumpet, and shew my people their transgression, and the house of Jacob their sins.” — Isaiah 58:1
Yes, it’s easier to remain comfortable. But comfort has never changed the world. Conviction has.
This is not about seeking power—it’s about living out stewardship. It’s about citizens who know the truth stepping into the gap before the vacuum is filled with lies.
Let’s lead with conviction. Let’s remember the meaning of politic. Let’s not be silent.
