The Workplace:

Consider this in the context of the workplace. Errors, mistakes, and omissions are inevitable; there is no doubt about it. Management often operates under the belief that these errors can be completely eradicated, which is the prevailing mindset. I have experienced this firsthand, having worked with “root cause” teams that focus solely on addressing a single mistake among a hundred tasks completed correctly.

Before labeling me as complacent, I acknowledge that pursuing excellence and aiming for a flawless performance is a commendable goal, yet it is unrealistic. Our best approach is to aim for 100% accuracy while accepting the necessity of minimizing errors.

It is essential to empower key team members, stakeholders, and process owners to rectify any errors, mistakes, or omissions without allowing the day to be overshadowed by criticism. These key players are vital to the organization and are committed to achieving 100% accuracy consistently.

Managers should remember that even the most capable employees can make mistakes due to various factors such as personal issues, family responsibilities, financial stress, fatigue, or challenging interactions with colleagues. The list of potential distractions is extensive.

It is crucial to understand your employees as individuals and refrain from referring to them as “your employees.”

How about a root cause team to address excellence?
