Living a Life of Holy Intention

  • by
Minimalist top-down view of a black fountain pen and an ink droplet on white textured paper with the quote: Imagine reading a book with no way to turn back the page.

Imagine sitting down with a book. You begin to read, but as you finish each page, the paper dissolves behind your fingers. There is no flipping back to re-read a missed detail. There is no returning to a previous chapter to fix a misunderstanding.

How carefully would you read?

The Application

This isn’t just a thought experiment; it is the reality of our walk as husbands, wives, and members of the Body of Christ. Every word spoken to a spouse and every moment invested in a child is a line of text written in a book that only moves forward.

To live deliberately is to recognize that our “ink” is permanent. When we are attentive to our families, we aren’t just “getting through the day”—we are honoring the sanctity of the time God has lent us.

KJV Scripture Pairings

To ground this metaphor in the Word, these verses emphasize the “carefulness” and “redeeming” of time that your keywords suggest.

Keyword Scripture (KJV) Contextual Connection
Vigilant

1 Peter 5:8

“Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about…”

In marriage and family, we must be watchful of the “pages” we write so the enemy doesn’t find a foothold.
Circumspect / Careful

Ephesians 5:15-16

“See then that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise, Redeeming the time…”

“Circumspectly” is the biblical equivalent of your “careful” and “intentional” focus.
Purposeful

Proverbs 4:25-26

“Let thine eyes look right on… Ponder the path of thy feet, and let all thy ways be established.”

This speaks to the intentional gaze—looking at the page we are currently reading without distraction.
Conscientious

Colossians 3:23

“And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men;”

Being thoughtful in our service to our family as if we are writing the book for God Himself.

“The pen is in your hand today. The page is white and waiting. Don’t rush through the paragraph; linger on the beauty of the characters God has placed in your story. You won’t get to read this page twice.”
